Nintendo Boasts Playable Versions of New Games at PAX

With PAX season on us once again, it’s time for companies to promote their upcoming games at the convention. Nintendo’s display will feature playable versions of their future products. Convention season is always great, with E3 bringing countless hardware and software announcements, and later ones like Gamescom and PAX bringing the games directly to the consumers. The Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle will be home to Nintendo’s offerings on both the main floor as well as in Nintendo’s Gaming Lounge.

Nintendo has announced quite a few games in the past couple years and it’s no secret that their first-party titles are often also the most popular titles for their consoles. Fans have been eagerly awaiting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Wii and now they can check it out at PAX. Mario Kart 7 will appear on the 3DS, along with the long-awaited Kid Icarus title called Kid Icarus: Uprising. Additional 3DS games which will be playable at the convention include Super Mario 3D Land, Starfox 64 3D, and even a Pokedex 3D game (which will also be promoted with various giveaways). Kirby Mass Attack and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 are for the standard Nintendo DS, showing that the older handheld will still be getting some love.

Nintendo announced the Wii U a few months ago, a console which they hope will be more directly competitive with Microsoft’s and Sony’s. The Wii sold like hotcakes, and continues to do well, but its offerings differ greatly from what can be found on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Nonetheless, Nintendo’s exclusives also set the Wii apart from the others, offering experiences such as the aforementioned Skyward Sword and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, games which won’t be available on either of the other two consoles.
