Since Steve Jobs snarky commentary on Samsung’s 7-inch Galaxy Tab, many of us have been apprehensive regarding its size (despite the fact the numbers beg to differ). So when Samsung debuted its Galaxy Tab 10.1 last weekend at Mobile World Congress, Open Source Apple foes breathed a sigh of relief. Behold, the Galaxy Tab 2.
This presumed iPad 1 & 2 killer, is one beautifully engineered product with Apple-like Circa 2010 squared aluminum edges, a black, glossy bezel, curved and grippy back, and awesomely wide screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution. Sporting a Dual Core Tegra 2 CPU, Android 3.0, and 16GB/32GB of RAM, we can already tell this will be the ultimate Honeycomb experience.
Plus, Engadget reports that Samsung has no plans to add Touchwiz or any other Samsung-branded alterations or applications to the Android OS, so it’s definitely the purest experience you can get (Seriously, imagine buying a PC without Dell, HP or Toshiba’s own crapware on it? Unheard of.) Oh, and did we mention it has dual-cameras, 2.0 mega pixel in front and an 8.0 mega pixel rear cam? For a closer look, check out Engadget’s hands on below:
In the end, as Engadget also points out, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 actually stacks pretty close to a lot of new tablets including Toshiba’s Tegra 2 as well as Motorola’s Xoom with the same stock Honeycomb and processors, screen sizes, dual-cams and stock Honeycomb 3.0 making the competition almost indistinguishable. It seems price and brand name may be the decision maker in this technology arms race.
Samsung says the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available in March. As usual, we’ll have to wait on at least one thing, $$.
