After looking this picture over that shows all of the actual make and models of the cars the original Transformers were based off of, I have come to an important realization: It has been a really long time since I watched the original TV show from the ’80s. While I can recognize a good number of them, and really, who can’t recognize the likes of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, there are plenty of names that draw a blank. Outback? Tailgate? Beachcomber?! I have a whole lot of catching up to do.
Despite my shocking lack of Transformers knowledge even though I loved the original show as a kid, this picture is awesome. I mean you just don’t get any closer to nostalgic fun than starting at this for awhile, remembering all of your favorite heroes from the original show. Oh, and the U-haul robot. I mean who couldn’t forget that guy, right? He was uber important. Actually, he may have been, I really have no idea. I do feel bad for Skids though. I mean being based a turbo mini-van should be punishment enough, but the additional humiliation of a terrible name? Ouch. My personal favorite is probably Red Alert. I think Inferno could probably use a more appropriate name like “Extinguisher” or “Siren-dude.” Scratch that last one. I guess that is still better than being based off a 1945 dune buggy though. I didn’t even realize they had dune buggies at that time.

If you’re in the mood for more Transformers fun, we have a ton of stuff here on Walyou. Since we’re in the dead of winter and there is a foot of snow outside my house currently, I think this ice sculpture Optimus Prime is the reason for the season. Alternatively you can play indoors with this very cool Bumblebee action figure.
