Hundreds of different companies around the world manufacture thousands of different kinds of automobiles. They each produce cars in all different varieties, suited to their target customers, current trends, economics, or local needs. But whether they be compacts, muscle cars, hybrids or bigass pick-ups, almost every single automobile built in the world today has four wheels. Sure, there are plenty of motorbikes and scooters that run on two, but once you’re sitting in front of a steering wheel, there are going to four wheels under you.
It wasn’t always this way. In fact, the very first purpose built automobile was the three wheeled Benz Patent-Motorwagen. But compared to their four-wheeled cousins, three wheeled cars have always been for collectors, rather than the regular motorist. One of the most beloved three-wheelers was the British made Morgans. Popular during the Interwar period, these little rides combined cool, aristocratic styling with surprising punch. Morgan pretty much gave up on the three wheel concept after WW2, but there remains today a large fanbase of the classic roadsters.
Today is their lucky day. Morgan Motors is bringing back their classic three-wheeler sports car. An updated version, this Morgan has a fuel-injected, 115-horsepower engine for improved power and performance and sells for about $40,000. Even cooler, its styled like a retro fighter plane, with aviation instrument panels and wicked World War 2 British Air Force markings on the body. Like the UK, it may be small and it may look a little weird, but only a fool would underestimate it.
