If you love the work of H.R. Giger or Ridley Scott’s Aliens films, and fancy yourself a guitar player, than this carved guitar may be perfect for you!
When you, or I, or most people for that matter think about customizing a guitar, we think about the electronics of it, including wiring and pickups, we do not think or replacing the entire body into a brand new carved design. But that is exactly what Gig Goldstein did – he created a carved alien guitar that pays homage to H.R. Giger’s alien, most widely recognized from the Ridley Scott movies.
Goldstein started carving a bit more than 12 years ago starting with chainsaw carvings and working up to more detailed work. A friend of his asked about carving onto the solid body of a guitar. And while at first it was a hobby, now it is quickly becoming popular as more people want their own customized, one of a kind guitar.
This detailed carving job took between 40 to 50 hours to complete. According to the artist, the most difficult part of the entire process is the overall design and ensuring it flows throughout the entire canvas, being the guitar in this case. He also looks to tell a story. This one is obviously based on the art of H.R. Giger and looks to tell the story of the life cycle of the alien.
