Consider two very significant events of the past – 1928 was the year that saw the birth of the iconic character Mickey Mouse and 1980 saw the release of the still so popular movie Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The popularity of neither has gone an inch down; on the contrary it is growing with each generation.
What happens when both of these come together? We can get to see something like a Disney Star Wars Vinylmation series. This is where science fiction meets the cartoon world.
Disney is releasing this series to mark the completion of 30 years of the motion picture. The first character to be released in this series is of Lando Calrissian. The Disney Vinylmation Star Wars Lando is dressed exactly like the character was dressed in the movie The Empire Strikes Back. You can easily relate to the blue shirt and the black trousers and shoes. The figure sports the same anchor shaped moustache as did Lando. The resemblance is as close as it could be. If you are a Star Wars fan it will hardly take you a second to recognize Lando in this form. Yeah, the only thing that does not go with the original Lando is the ears. This still does not hamper the similarity in appearance. And all credits go to the designers of Disney who have come up with this awesome piece of Vinylmation creation.
There may however be many of us who are unaware of the entire Vinylmation series. Available in three inch and nine inch sizes these are a series of toys made available only at Disneyland and other Disney theme parks. As they are made of vinyl, therefore the name Vinylmation. Its uniqueness to Disney lies in the fact that the entire series has various stylized characters in the form of Mickey Mouse. The entire range of Vinylmation series includes vinyl miniatures of Mickey painted in lookalike fashion of a variety of characters and objects from Disney theme parks. Some of the Vinylmation series that have been released in the past include Big Eyes, Sports, Muppets, Holiday and many more. The first one to be released was the Park #1 series.
The latest entrant is the Star Wars series with Lando being the first character to be made available as a preview. There are many more to follow like Luke, Boba Fett, R2D2, Darth Vader, Han Solo etc. The scheduled release for this series has been set for August 2010.
This is surely a collectible, that every Star Wars fan would like to have. To know more about such stuff, check out Transformers Mickey Toy and Alice in Wonderland Bobble Heads.
