Everyone knows who lives in a pineapple under the sea. But very few have seen this famous sponge come to life on a birthday cake! This edible work of art features Spongebob Squarepants and his snail Gary in full color and stunning detail. From the Artisan Cake Company of Portland, Oregon comes this sweet cartoon creation that will surely make any birthday an unforgettable one.
The square cake shows the living room and TV set of the famous Poriferan, with ground nuts used to resemble the sandy floor. The characters and decorations are molded from sugar paste. Here you can see Spongebob Squarepants sitting on his life preserver lounge chair with his seashell phone in hand. Alongside him is his faithful pet snail, Gary, who also seems to be enjoying Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy on the TV screen.
The creator has definitely made the effort to capture the details that are often seen on the cartoon show. Take for instance the interior wall of Spongebob’s house, with the blue pattern and orange flowers. The two characters are so well-copied that they seem like they’ve just popped right out of the show. It’s just as if you can hear Gary going, “Meow” as they both watch their favorite superheroes on TV.
Speaking of TV, perhaps one cool feature of this birthday cake is the replica of Spongebob’s boob tube, made out of gold-colored sugar paste. The TV set from the cartoon series is actually an old diver’s helmet, shown here complete with antennae and bolts. The TV screen image is of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, the undersea versions of Batman and Robin.
The Artisan Cake Company has been known in the Portland area for their awesome cake designs that are almost too good to eat. They have also been featured for their Angry Birds cake toppers, all expertly sculpted from sugar icing. Talk about a sweet treat for geeks!
