Kloss DeLighTable Touch-Sensitive Coffee Table

Imagine going to a bar or a coffee shop and not only enjoying your drink, but you’re also entertained by your table most of the time. This isn’t far away.

The Kloss’ DeLighTable is a multi-touch sensitive table, which closely resembles the Microsoft Surface. Its pressure-sensitive screen lights up when your hands make contact with the table surface. Moreover, if your drink is set on top of it, the glass will immediately glow from underneath.

Kloss DeLighTable

The actual Kloss surface is only 2 cm thick, consumes only 12 volts of energy, and it is entirely water-proof.

This amazing product has been in development for over two years. Each table is made to order, and the typical lead time is about four to six weeks. The DeLighTable is now available at a price around $2300.

You can see a quick video demonstration below that I must admit is pretty amazing.

No More Messy and Tangled Earphones

I always wondered when would a practical product be designed to keep our earphones untangled and easily accessible. Finally it happened!

Throughout the years, no matter how much effort I put into packing or unpacking my earphones, they would always end up getting tangled. I remember wrapping them around the walkman when I was young, nowadays it is the mp3 player, and it would always be messed up when I unravel it.. We can all remember the times when a knot turned into many different ones. We start to mess with all the wires, moving them around and through loops, so finally our earphones would be free and loose. Sometimes it would be easy to untangle, sometimes it would be time consuming and frustrating.

This is a Broadhong Design, and Jaehyung Hong has created an earphone holder that neatly keeps them organized. When you are finished listening, simply place them in the holder and lock them in place. Since the cords are placed through the holder, they are held in place correctly and efficiently.

Enough is enough…no more messy and tangled earphones!

Face Recognizing Machine Decides if you are Old Enough to Smoke

Face Recognizing Vending Machine

There are so many different vending machines available. We pass by many that sell drinks, food, ice cream and candy, even automated kiosks that sell gadgets and electronics (usually located at airports).

I Must admit, I have never seen a face recognizing machine!

Vending machines are technologically developing more and more. I remember it began with paying with coins, then bills, then a credit card, sometimes with a cell phone and now your thumb can pay for gas as well. Although the latter is not a vending machine, it illustrates an additional possible payment method. With that, vending machines are simply becoming more and more technologically advanced.

Now there is a new vending machine being developed in Japan that will include face recognition software to determine if cigarette purchasers are old enough to smoke.

While cigarette vending machines are very convenient to many, its vulnerability is granting the ability for minors to buy cigarettes as well.

When a client requests a purchase, a camera will take a picture and based on wrinkles, sagging around the eyes and additional criteria will determine whether to sell the cigarettes or not. Textually mentions that in a test with over 500 people ranging from teenagers to 60 year olds, the machine was 90% accurate. In times when the vending machine cannot make a viable decision, it requests an ID, so it can compare the picture it took with the ID for authentication.

I must admit that this sounds pretty amazing. I am personally looking forward to see aditional technological innovations.

Mario Brothers Theme using Tesla Coils

The Mario Brothers game theme in a whole different light…literally.

I grew up on the Nintendo Mario Brother video games, so watching the theme created by high powered Tesla coils is pretty entertaining. While the two coils are 7 feet high and 18 feet apart, the sparks still manage to reach one another.

by the way there aren’t any speakers connected. Furget explanation may be found at Makezine.

This theme is so addictive. After watching this, I started humming it for the rest of day.

Your Pet Information on USB

How convenient would it be to have your pet’s care information, owner contact details, and veterinary charts on a small USB flash drive strapped on your pet’s collar?

There are many pet identification possibilities, ranging from the simple collar tags that are most common, to embedded microchips that many view as a cruel alternative.

In case your dog or cat is lost, sick, or being taken care of by others (while you are vacationing), this will have the important information stored on USB. The data can be accessed anytime by a simple plug-in to any computer USB connection.

The Pet Safe Micro I.D Collar for Dogs or Cats costs $42.99. Price can vary based on your pet’s neck size.

For those of you who would like to have the peace of mind of having the relevant pet information available in case your pet is lost or needs caring for, this could be a good solution.

A Newer and even Slimmer Version of PS2 is Soon to be Released

The Sony Playstation 2 just keeps getting slimmer and more attractive.

The popular game console the Playstation 2 (PS2) is getting another new design, that provides a smaller and more convenient look.

I originally bought the PS2 when it first was released in the U.S. It was a huge box compared to now, but at that time it didn’t seem so. I remember the PS2 was an amazing and fun gaming console.

Since then, the current version is smaller and a lot more practical. I cannot believe that the two machines do the same job and play the same games.

The newest version, SCPH-90000, is similar to the PS2 slim in design. It was reduced further by using smaller components to pack the original power in the new console. In addition, the AC adapter is not external anymore, reducing the hassle to carry it to another room or a friend’s house. Another factor adding to its mobility is that it weighs only 1.6 pounds.

The newest PS2 launches in Japan on November 22nd and costs approximately $140 (with tax). The colors available are silver, black and white. It should be available in the U.S in early 2008 for a little over $99.

In addition, a new Deep Red PSP (Kotaku) is being released in Japan as well.

An Apple Tablet Mac in the Works?

The long time rumor may have been shed some light on… is Apple actually working on a Tablet Mac?

Based on a recent Crave correspondence, an Asus insider has mentioned that they are actually working with Apple on a new Tablet computer. Asus being one of Apple’s manufacturers, for such products as the MacBook, iBook, and PowerBook, grants this rumor some validity. It also states that the tablet will not be developed as an Asus Tablet design, allowing us to speculate whether the 2005 Apple patent for a Tablet computer will be brought back to light.

Will the Apple Tablet be a success? Will it finally make a Tablet computer that will be used and appreciated by the consumers? Well, we will have to wait and see what they can come up with. One thing is for sure, they are definitely capable. We have seen Apple’s current iPhone to realize that they are well acquainted with touchscreen technology and are indeed very innovative.

Now Your Thumb Can Pay for Gas

Biometric fingerprintWould it make your life more convenient if you could make purchases with a thumb scan instead of the current methods of payment?

There are currently 10 Shell gas stations test locations in Chicago where biometric finger scanners are installed as payment methods. By placing their fingers on the scanners, customers can pay at the checkout stands or gas pumps.

This does require pre-registration of your thumb print, and the payment method to go with it.

This sounds like it is taken out of an old Sci-Fi film and is somewhat innovative, but is it really helping? Is paying with a credit card, ATM, or even cash that difficult and time-consuming? Will we now have to worry about being mugged for our thumbs and not just our wallets?

Is this a good or bad innovative payment method? I will let you decide.
