If you’re tired of all the holiday shopping already, and don’t want to go up and down any escalator ever again, then this “Star Wars” escalator will offer you a new hope.
This cool escalator mod was spotted in Tel Aviv, Israel’s city hall. It’s not known exactly who did this as of this writing, but the idea is pretty cool. Somehow, the words to the opening crawl of the first episode of “Star Wars.” Technically, it’s the fourth, but we’re not going to let George Lucas tell use which movies are actually part of the “Star Wars” universe, are we? Just pretend it’s 1977.
Any true “Star Wars” fan will be able to recite these words from memory: “It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships striking from a hidden base have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.”
There’s also a video of a woman providing an appropriately epic soundtrack:
This is a cool project, and more proof that the Holy Land, along with the country’s recent success as a startup hub, is as geeky as any other place on Earth. The best part is that, in the words of the Late Great Mitch Hedberg, “An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs.” Awesomely geeky stairs.
For a site that covers geek culture, it’s inevitable that we’re bursting at the seams with “Star Wars” posts. You might want to check out this R2-D2 etched glass, a carbon fiber Storm Trooper suit, and an AT-AT liquor cabinet.
